Chicago Bears safety Coby Bryant had knee surgery Friday and will be out 4-6 months, coach Ben Johnson confirmed Tuesday. The Bears are hopeful Bryant could return at the end of the season or playoffs. Initially, there was optimism within the organization that Bryant might not need surgery when he was carted off the field at training camp on Aug. 3. Bryant had a hyperextended knee, a bone bruise and a small fracture, according to reports. Bryant signed a three-year contract after spending his first four NFL seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals Tiger Mascot Football Graphic Shirt, appearing in 58 games with 34 starts and recording 227 tackles, nine tackles-for-loss, seven interceptions, 17 pass breakups and seven forced fumbles. All seven of Bryant's interceptions came in the last two seasons after he switched from cornerback to safety. Last year, he established career highs with four picks and seven pass breakups in helping Seattle win the Super Bowl.
